The Happy 100 Men’s Club

Established February 1, 1965


 

PURPOSE:   The enjoyment of golf by amateurs.

 

CONSTITUTION

I.        ACTIVITIES.

A.     One golfing event per month, generally on the third Saturday of May, June, July, August and September.

B.     Optional participation in golfing events on public links.

 

II.      MEMBERS.

A.     A person who has paid his membership fee for the current year is recognized as a member of The Happy 100 Men’s Club.

B.     A member of The Happy 100 Men’s Club must be of legal drinking age.

C.    Any new member under the legal drinking age must be accompanied by his parent or legal guardian and the age of 18 at the time of the league’s first outing.

D.    Absence.

1.     A person may absent himself from the club for one year and still remain a member in good standing.

2.     After an absence of two or more years, a person returning to the club will be considered a new member.

E.     All persons who joined The Happy 100 Men’s Club in 1965 will forever be considered Charter Members.

 

III.    FEES AND FINANCIAL RECORDS.

A.     Membership fees shall be determined by the Board of Directors.

B.     The annual fee must be paid by the second event of each year.

C.    The fee requirements may be changed by a vote of three-fourths (75%) of the Board of directors.

D.    The financial records of the Club shall be open to any member in good standing.


 

IV.   OFFICERS OF THE HAPPY 100 MEN’S CLUB.

A.     The officers of the club shall be the President (Financial Officer), the Vice-President (Financial Officer) and the Competition Secretary.  The President and Competition Secretary shall be exempt from paying dues during their term of office.

B.     The term of Financial Officers shall be two years.

C.    The President’s greens fees will be paid for by the Club when he attends a regularly scheduled outing.

D.    Election of a Vice-President shall be held every two years at the September outing by printed ballot.

E.     The Executive Board shall accept written nominations of members in good standing who have volunteered to accept the position of Vice-President.  From the nominations submitted, the Executive Committee will select two candidates to compose the slate for presentation to the membership.

F.     The Vice-President’s term will be two (2) years, after which he will assume the roll of President for a two (2) year term.

G.    The position of Competition Secretary will be appointed by the President and approved by the Board of Directors.

H.     The Board of Directors shall be comprised of the President, the Vice-President, the Competition Secretary and the members of the Executive Committee.

I.         The Executive Committee shall be comprised of the following:

a.)   The Past Club presidents,

b.)   The Past Competition Secretaries, and

c.)    No more than two members appointed by the President.

 


 

BY LAWS

 

The Happy 100 Men’s Club offers each member:

  • The opportunity to improve his golf game.
  • The opportunity to play with more skillful, experienced players, and to be able to watch and to learn.
  • The opportunity for competition.
  • The ability to enjoy competition and challenge with the chance to improve his skills to meet the challenge.
  • The opportunity for fellowship.
  • A chance to play with others who enjoy a good game of golf… good food… and a good cup of cheer.
  • The opportunity for fun.

The name of The Happy 100 Men’s Club reflects the fact that its members have fun.

 

RULE A.

When possible, tee times will not be scheduled before 10:00 AM or later than 1:30 PM.

RULE B.

Competition will have flights.  The number of flights will be determined by the Board of Directors on an annual basis during the Spring Board of Directors meeting.

 

Trophies will be awarded in each flight after each outing.

 

The Club Championship, the Barnes Cup, the Murray Award and the Stalker Award will be presented at the Club’s annual banquet.

RULE C.

HANDICAPS:

1.      A member’s handicap shall be based on the best three (3) of the last (5) club outings, according to USGA Equitable Stroke Control (ESC), at 100 percent (100%).

2.      Maximum score per hole is 11 strokes.  A member should pick up and continue to the next hole in order to speed up play.

3.      A new member’s or guest’s handicap on their first outing will be based on a maximum allowed of two (2) over par per hole.  Every outing thereafter will be based upon USGA Equitable Stroke Control (ESC).

4.      To be eligible for monthly trophies, a member must have previously competed in one Club outing.

5.      A new member, while establishing a handicap at his first outing, shall be eligible for Flag Events, Blind Bogey and the Skin Game.

6.      To be eligible to receive the Club Championship, the Murray Award, the Barnes Cup or the Stalker Award, a member must have participated in three (3) of the five (5) outings for the year.

RULE D.

PLAYOFFS:

1.      Any ties that develop for a flight winner shall be decided by the “scorecard”, using the lowest gross score on the number 1, 2, 3, etc. handicap rated hole until the tie has been broken.

2.      For the Club Championship, ties shall be broken by the total net score of the three (3) best outings for the season of each person tied for the Championship.  In the event this does not produce a winner, see rule #3.

3.      The President, or ranking Club officer in attendance at the outing, shall determine which tiebreaker shall be used.

 

RULE E.

Winter Rules (preferred lies) shall be played in order to have a uniform playing code for the competition of The Happy 100 Men’s Club.

 

RULE F.

Membership in The Happy 100 Men’s Club shall be limited to the first one hundred (100) persons who sign up and pay their dues in full.

 

RULE G.

The Blind Bogey range shall be net scores as determined by the lowest and highest net scores for each outing.

 

RULE H.

The membership fee does not include greens fees, which are separate and must be paid at the clubhouse before the member registers at the starter’s table.

 

RULE I.

Members who have paid the full membership fee shall be eligible to attend, and to bring a guest to, the annual end-of-season banquet.


 

RULE J.

GUESTS.

1.      In order to determine if the Club, and the format of its competition, meets his needs, a new member may pay one-fifth (20%) of the annual membership fee when he attends his first outing.

2.      A member in good standing may bring a guest to play in an outing.  However, the payment of one-fifth (20%) of the annual membership fee is required for the guest before he tees off.  Guest status for an individual is limited to one outing per year.

 

 

RULES OF PLAY

 

  1. USGA rules.
  2. Course (local) rules.
  3. Winter (preferred lies) rules.
  4. A free drop is permitted from all service roads, no closer to the hole.
  5. Allow players to hit up on Par 3 holes.
  6. Allow two (2) club lengths, no closer to the hole, on small trees and shrubs, i.e. any tree or shrub around which the scorecard can be wrapped.
  7. When questions arise about a rule, an alternate ball should be played and holed out along with the original ball.
  8. All rulings or questions about play shall be answered by the Competition Secretary or highest-ranking officer present.
  9. The Happy 100 Men’s Club and each member shall make every reasonable effort to curb slow play.  However, if a member consistently presents a “slow play” problem, the Board of Directors may revoke his membership.

 

AWARDS

I.        CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP:

A.     Highest Point total for the year.

Points per flight per outing.

1st place          = 10 points

2nd place        = 9 points

3rd place         = 8 points

4th place         = 7 points

5th place         = 6 points

6th place         = 5 points

7th place         = 4 points

8th place         = 3 points

9th place         = 2 points

10th place       = 1 point

B.     The highest point total for four (4) outings will count.

C.    A member must play in three (3) outings to qualify.

D.    In the event of ties, refer to “RULE D. – PLAYOFFS”.

 

II.       BARNES CUP.

A.     Awarded to the low net score for the September outing.

B.     Member must play in three (3) outings to qualify.

C.    All ties refer to “RULE D. – PLAYOFFS”.

D.    Personal plaque to be awarded at the banquet.

 

III.      MURRAY AWARD.

A.     Awarded to the low gross score for the September outing.

B.     Member must play in three (3) outings to qualify.

C.    All ties refer to “RULE D. – PLAYOFFS”.

D.  Traveling trophy to be awarded at the banquet

 

IV.   STALKER AWARD.

A.     Awarded to the average low gross (scratch) score for the season.

B.     Member must play in three (3) outings to qualify.

C.    Trophy to be presented at the banquet.

 

V.     MONTHLY FLIGHT WINNERS.

A.     Places in each flight will be determined by the low net score.

B.     Trophies will be awarded to first and second place in each flight.

C.    All ties refer to “RULE D. – PLAYOFFS”.
